What is the FoodTech 500? Started in 2019 by London based FoodTech Innovation hub Forward Fooding, and the brainchild of Alessio D'Antino, The Food Tech 500 is Inspired by the Fortune 500, and is the world’s first definitive list of the global entrepreneurial talent at the intersection between food, technology, and sustainability. What does this mean for Whywaste? Firstly, the list is truly a global reflection of the FoodTech industry - the latest iteration attracted over 2000 applications from start-ups & scale-ups from 60 countries. For Whywaste to feature so highly on the list, is a massive boost for what we are doing. We are humans at the end of the day, and whilst humble, it is always nice to be recognised for your success. Secondly, it is always great to see our friends doing so well, companies like Plant Jammer, ResQ Club, Olio, Too Good To Go, all feature in the list, which shows that surplus food prevention is a diverse and thriving market. One which is populated by many companies all doing extra-ordinary work to make a positive difference to the food value chain. Finally, and arguably most importantly, this is something to strive to improve on. While not the be-all-and-end-all of our metrics (that is food waste saved) gaining an increased ranking gives Whywaste something to aim for next year.
