Press release:

Swedish food tech company Whywaste wins Shark Reef Startup Pitch in Las Vegas

Groceryshop, the leading event for grocery and CDG, took place at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas September 19 - 22. The conference brought together around 4,000 established retailers, brands and technology companies.

Winner of the judges prize

On Monday, Martin Grådal, co-founder and CTO of Whywaste pitched the company’s food waste solutions in the Shark Reef Startup Pitch Contest. There were two winners in the contest, one decided by the audience and the other by the judges. Whywaste won the judge’s prize. The other prize was won by Vici Robots.

“I’m happy and thankful for the overwhelming response from judges, audience and retailers here at Groceryshop. It both proves that the industry takes the issue of food waste seriously as well as understands that Whywaste’s solutions will have a positive impact on both environment and bottom-line.” Martin Grådal says.

Positive impact

Food waste is now high up on everyone's agenda, amplified by inflation and increases in global food insecurities in these uncertain times. The UN’s sustainable development goal 12.3 aims to halve global food waste by 2030. According to their reports, almost a third of all food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted.

The contest was moderated by Deborah Weinswig, CEO and Founder of Coresight Research, who also featured on the judging panel.

Martin continues, “Lastly I just want to thank Groceryshop for a world class event and a great forum to meet relevant people from all across the grocery industry to share experience, ideas and learnings.”
