Coop Leksand wins waste prize at White Guide Green
We at Whywaste want to congratulate Coop Leksand, who won “årets stora svinnpris” at the White White Guide Green awards 2018. Coop Leksand in Dalarna earned the prize for their inspiring and engaging way to educate customers to use their senses, smelling and tasting, to determine the freshness of food - not only expiration. We at Whywaste think this should be common sense and is a very good initiative.
So what did they win?
They won a one year subscription of Whywaste’s all systems! The prize was awarded by Skånemejerier, one of the main sponsors for the White Guide Greens gala. A gala for grocery stores working towards a sustainable future. “Stora svinnpriset” was one of 10 prizes in different categories - all in the warm and inspiring spirit of sustainability. Unfortunately COOP Leksand did not have the opportunity to attend the gala and receive the prize, so instead the incredible Louise König - COOP’s Sustainability Manager - received the reward on their behalf. We would like to congratulate COOP Leksand on their win. We are convinced that we can learn a lot from each other about food waste and we are really looking forward to working with you in the fight to reduce the food waste. Whywaste would also like to praise the initiative taken by White Guide Green to introduce a guide of sustainable grocery stores in Sweden and a gala to highlight the grocery stores working at the forefront with sustainability. The stores have an important responsibility in informing customers about food waste and how it can be prevented. A gala raises skill and awareness in the industry; to work with sustainability should always be praised and noted. To all the other prize participants and nominees we really want to share a big congratulations. You have all set the stage high and now it’s up to other grocery stores in Sweden to follow your lead.
